Bar fails in bid to challenge AG on Zahid’s graft case

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has rejected the Malaysian Bar’s application for leave to commence judicial review proceedings to challenge the attorney-general’s (AG) decision to discontinue Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption case.
Justice Amarjeet Singh also dismissed the Bar’s application to refer certain legal issues on Zahid’s case to the Federal Court.
Last year, the Bar sought leave to quash the AG’s decision to seek a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) over 47 corruption, money laundering and criminal breach of trust brought against the deputy prime minister.
The Bar claimed the AG’s decision was “unreasonable and tainted with irrationality”, and sought a mandamus order to compel the AG to disclose all information it relied on and the basis of his decision to seek the conditional discharge.
