Ex-PHEB CEO released on MACC bond after night in custody

GEORGE TOWN: Former Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) executive director and CEO M Ramachandran was released at 11am today on a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission bond after spending a night in custody.
Speaking to FMT after his release, Ramachandran said he remains “resolute” despite the ordeal.
“I am now more than energised to face what is to come. This is yet another hurdle in my struggle. I’m determined to save the PHEB,” he said.
“This is the cost of fighting dirty politics. When we take on dirty politicians, this is what you get.”
Ramachandran was detained yesterday under Section 23 of the MACC Act as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement of a golden chariot for Thaipusam in 2019.
Earlier today, FMT reported that the High Court here will hear an application to reduce his six-day remand order on Dec 9.
Ramachandran, who is also a special officer to Penang deputy chief minister Jagdeep Singh Deo, is required to report to MACC daily as part of its investigation.
